Evangelii Nuntiandi: Implementing the message in our community Lake Havasu City

by Fr. Tony Okolo C.S.Sp., V.F.  |  07/28/2024  |  Weekly Reflection

Beloved Parishioners,

I continue with my write-up on evangelization which is a responsibility given to everyone. Last week I wrote on the need for everyone to get involved in this process of evangelization. Today, relying on one of Pope Paul VI’s documents Evangelii Nuntiandi I reflect on how we can make this a reality in our own city of Lake Havasu.

by Fr. Tony Okolo C.S.Sp., V.F.  |  07/21/2024  |  Weekly Reflection

Beloved Parishioners,

In this Pastor’s Corner I share with you a reflection on the need for each of us to embrace the Spirit of an evangelizer and a missionary. The current teaching of the Church is that mission and evangelization today concerns all baptized Christians not just the priests and religious.

“My Grace is Sufficient for You” 2 Corinthians 12:9

by Fr. Tony Okolo C.S.Sp., V.F.  |  07/14/2024  |  Weekly Reflection

Beloved Parishioners,

As Christians we understand perfectly that grace is an external help given to us by God to help dispose us to virtue and goodness and we do not fail to make recourse to the grace of God in our prayers as a foundational basis of our Christian life and practices. What are we without the grace of God?

A Call to Positive Change & Newness

by Fr. Tony Okolo C.S.Sp., V.F.  |  07/07/2024  |  Weekly Reflection

Beloved Parishioners,

I continue my reflection with you in this Pastor’s Corner and today, after my summer vacation, I want to share a reflection on what can bring a positive change in our spiritual life. We read how Saul changed to Paul following his Damascus experience of Christ (Acts 9:1-9) and how Christ himself renamed Simon, the head of the apostles, Cephas or Peter (John 1:42), but I really wonder if we have ever thought of the significance of the great change that comes with an encounter with Jesus Christ.

St. Anthony of Padua: A Model of Practical Christian Witnessing

by Fr. Tony Okolo C.S.Sp., V.F.  |  06/23/2024  |  Weekly Reflection

Beloved Parishioners,

As an effort to emphasize the importance of holiness of life, robust faith, and spiritual fervor, which are the hallmarks of Christians who are bearing witness to the Gospel message in the modern time, I want to strongly recommend to all of us, the example, patronage, and spirituality of Saint Anthony of Padua. The intercession of this Saint is a special privilege I have enjoyed all my life, most especially in my vocation, and I wish to recommend him to all of us as a model for piety and virtues.

Celebrating a Heart Completely Human and Completely Divine

by Fr. Tony Okolo C.S.Sp., V.F.  |  06/09/2024  |  Weekly Reflection

Beloved Parishioners,

In line with my promise to keep sharing with you some significant reflections on the solemnities we celebrate in the church, today I wish to share with you another reflection on the Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. The Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, Why Not on Maundy Thursday?

by Fr. Tony Okolo C.S.Sp., V.F.  |  06/02/2024  |  Weekly Reflection

Beloved Parishioners,

The Church historically celebrates the institution of the Holy Eucharist on Maundy Thursday, which is the first day of Tridium, usually the peak of the Lenten period. This moment is already charged with sorrowful memories, Judas’ betrayal, the arrest and agony of Jesus, Peter’s denial, as well as the memories of our imperfections in following Christ.

The Solemnity of the Holy Trinity

by Fr. Tony Okolo C.S.Sp., V.F.  |  05/26/2024  |  Weekly Reflection

Beloved Parishioners,

As I said that I would be sharing spiritual reflection from events and solemnities we celebrate as I take my vacation, today I share with you the mystery of the Holy Trinity. The Easter season is over with Pentecost, which we celebrated last Sunday, and we have returned to the liturgical season of Ordinary Time again. However, today, the first Sunday after the coming of the Holy Spirit, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity which points us to the meditation of the mystery of the Godhead.

Mary and the Pentecost

by Fr. Tony Okolo C.S.Sp., V.F.  |  05/19/2024  |  Weekly Reflection

Beloved Parishioners,

As I stated in my last Pastor’s Corner, I would be sharing reflections on some Church’s feasts and events during, my vacation, thus this week I wish to share a reflection on Mary’s role on Pentecost today. The Pentecost which we celebrate 50 days after Easter Sunday, taken away from its Jewish origin and significance, is regarded as the birthday of the Church remarkably because of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Church which took place on that day.
